What to Bring?

What to bring to VUL?

We encourage students to make plans with your roommates(s) so you can avoid bringing the same items. You are not allowed to use nails or screws to attach posters, pictures, etc. to the wall or molding. You will be responsible for all repair if there is any damage or discoloration to the walls.

Things to bring

  • Alarm clock
  • Backpack
  • Rain jacket & umbrella
  • Flashlight & batteries
  • Bedding
    • Sheets, comforter, blankets, pillow, mattress pad/topper (recommended)
  • Laundry
    • Laundry basket, detergent, fabric softener, drying rack, ironing board, iron, rolls of quarters
  • Emergency medical information
    • Insurance information
    • Family doctor information
    • Medical conditions
    • Prescriptions
    • Emergency contact information
  • Small sewing kit & safety pins
  • Power strips with circuit breakers
  • Desk supplies
    • Desk lamp, trash can, pens, pencils, stapler with staples, scissors, tape, calculator, correction fluid/tape, note cards, envelopes, stamps
  • Personal hygiene
    • Shampoo, conditioner, soap, toiletries, towels, shower shoes
  • First aid kit
    • Bandages, peroxide, antiseptic cream, digital thermometer, headache medicine, cough drops, cold medicine
  • Cleaning supplies
    • All-purpose cleaner, window cleaner, broom, mop, trash bags

VUL Supplied

Every room contains one of these items.

  • Refrigerators (15amps or less)

  • Window treatment

 

Not Permitted Items

  • Pets
  • Nails, tape that damage the walls
  • Waterbeds
  • Multiple-plus outlets (except for surge protectors)
  • Extension cords
  • Candles
  • Air conditioners, space heaters
  • Torchier-style halogen lamps
  • Tubular halogen light bulbs
  • Hot plates, hot pots, sandwich makers
  • Toasters, toaster ovens, George Foreman grills

 

Suggested items to bring

  • Toilet paper, plunger, bathroom cleaning supplies, toilet shelf
  • Trash cans and trash bags
  • Plates, silverware, cups
  • Bathmat
  • Entry floor mat/rug
  • Mop, bucket, broom, vacuum cleaner

 

Insurance Liability

The university will not be responsible for damage to or loss of personal belongings which are a result of fire, wind, water, insects, rodents, vandalism or theft. However, when damage or loss is reported, the university will take reasonable steps to attempt to resolve the problem. Students are encouraged to make sure personal belongings are covered by their parent’s homeowner’s policy or a renter’s insurance policy.
